This weekly, and sometimes daily, column showcases fresh, colourful, innovative musings, with a focus on design, marketing and culture to inspire thought-leaders.
Today is Rocky Mountain News's last day in published.
55 days shy of its 150 year history.
What is the future of publishing? With alot of NSPs on-line, ad revenue down, the rise of the blogosphere (pu-leeze... is it news or just alot of Op-Ed? guess my vote).
Saturday Night Live has certainly hit its stride as of late. Having Andy Samberg and his creative collective at Lonely Island create material for the show, but with the ultimate goal of viral viewership. At last look, the official posting of this video had 5.5mm views. TV ratings could be so lucky.
I didn't get an email address until 3rd year. And when I heard about Hotmail for the first time I thought it was a pornsite...(heard, not read).
"What Does it All Mean?" is an eye opening narrative video about our global citizenship shown through the prism of time, technology and population. Imagine if the population of Facebook was a nation....
And home to Howie. Everyone in the neighbourhood knew Howie. He was a baseball afficianado, a kind soul and the friendliest person you would ever meet on a BMX. We grew up with him.
Howie passed away this month. He was burried wearing his blue Little Mountain baseball hat.
I am so lucky to have so many people in my life that I love and who love me. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I am a believer in LOVE. click here to find out the average amount spent on Valentine's Day on your Boo.

There is one valentine that hasn't arrived, and from a valentine I can count on. Ironically He is just not that into You is #1 at the box office. Update... its a package!! and its at the boarder. Goody Gumdrops.
I have somehow managed to keep my job through 5 rounds of layoffs in various careers. Today is no exception. I went into this believing it was an equal opportunity let-go and I was right. Good people are now without employment.
If every cloud has a silver lining. This ad might be a thread of tinsel. We know there is truth in advertising and however, fragile and precious your job feels in this fleeting economy, there is somewhere in you that seeks a break and change from the daily grind.
I really like this spot. And I love that unlike the monster.com spot that ran for the superbowl this one doesn't have the super lame 'supers' at the end telling you what's different. It didn't address the job crisis, which could be debated as +/-, but I liked the attractive positioning of change. Good work speaks for itself...in this case.
...advertising that is. No big surprize that these whimsical fantasy ads came from mon paramour agency WK.
love the music in the picnic scene. love the emotional fun escape that puts a smile on my face. A purely emotional spot that dresses up the desire for a fun, escape and well, happiness. And somehow sells coca-cola...would I like it as much if the brand was so well entrenched... probably.
Is Coke just the fail-safe symbol for American oppression, or democratic free-thinking ways? Or is the habit of anti-Americanism so pervasive that it is a mainstream and ubiquitous as a bottle of coke? Or, is Russia truly concerned about the tooth enamel and digestive system of their citizens that they feel that this liquid (oh so tasty when on ice) firecracker should not fit into the daily diet?
What other brands could so poingnantly represent the western world? McDonalds? Nike? Apple? Dare I say Starbucks?.... of that of health? Apple (of a different image) and a toothbrush?
